Cosmetics at Elsa Muse

Today I invite you to join me for the beauty behind the scenes of the BOX DIY by Elsa
Muse. For each BOX, several cosmetic recipes are developed related to the theme, and to
carry them out, we provide you with every ingredient needed in the BOX. Where are
they from, and how are they made? With full disclosure at stake, this is the question I
wanted to answer…

The secret of the conception of the ingredients of the BOX bears the name… FRANCE LAB! It is the beauty incubator Marie-Claire, French manufacturer specialised in upmarket beauty innovation internationally. With 30 years of experience, laboratories, experts and chemists, they produce cosmetic goods for brands around the world like Estée Lauder, Bonpoint, Chanel or even Parashop. Their makeup products are the only ones to have acquired the ORIGINE FRANCE GARANTIE O.F.G label, certified by Bureau VERITAS. Concerning production, it’s handmade (goods are crafted by hand) and made from the most noble and natural raw materials, strictly respecting legislation. Many good reasons to collaborate with them!

As they make everything themselves, from design to packaging, we were sure they would perfectly understand our issues at hand: To condition into small vials a few grams of linseed oil, beeswax or Rhassoul powder (check that here). We were lucky that they agreed to join us for the venture in the DIY journey, also discovering the complexities of personalization but always bending over backwards to answer our requests!

How do we work out our recipes?

We make a few trial recipes at our office. Once we have identified some leads, we buy the commodities at organic stores, which allow us to come up with our creams or mixtures. The team acts as guinea pigs to see if our creations are really efficient and pleasant. Here we prefer testing on our trainees rather than on animals lol.

Once we are satisfied with the outcome, we call France Lab to obtain a larger scale supply of raw materials. And when it comes to formulations (to create makeup for example), they test them in their laboratories then suggest several formulas until it’s the right one.

From where do we get our raw materials?

Taking the December box “Noël au balcon” as an example, we imagined 3 fresh cosmetic recipes to take care of ones breasts: a scrub, a firming beauty mask and massaging oil. For these recipes, we needed linseed oil, sweet almond oil, lemon essential oil and a bit of Rhassoul. France Lab then suggests several ideas for each ingredient, based on quantities and qualities required. Among their suppliers, they try to offer raw materials issued from responsible and/or biological agriculture when our constraints allow it.

How to test our products?

If you want to go for the creation of your fresh cosmetics, many ideas are available on ELSA SHOP, here.

Anyway, a new adventure that reminds me of what I used to do before the blog, except that now I’m working for myself and I’m able to write down all my ideas. These products are for you, so do not hesitate to share your desires and needs here or on instagram :*
