The anti-depression mask

Sometimes on a winter Sunday evening, you feel a bit depressed… when this happens; I tend to eat a bar of chocolate in front of the TV, don’t you? I heard that the reason for this is due to the fact that chocolate contains phenyl ethylamine, which is basically a chemical element essential for liberating endorphins, those happiness molecules. Well for skin it’s the same. Sometimes it’s depressed and is stressed so nothing better than giving it a small dose of chocolate, a bit of time for it.  A mask and we’re off again! 😉

Here is my recipe for the cocooning anti-stress, anti-depression chocolate mask for your face.

It’s EASY and QUICK! Oh yes and as usual… you will need:

-An organic dark chocolate bar (not milk chocolate of course) of which I use about 8 squares. I try to get one at least 75% dark.

-A spoon of sweet-almond oil (you can invest in a bottle of it, if you follow my DIY beauty, as we will use it again for other recipes such as body scrubs. If you don’t have any you can use olive oil, but I don’t like the smell as much).

Melt the chocolate in a bain-marie for purists; I cheat by using my good old microwave, but very gently. Add the oil and apply with a clean brush or with your fingers. It’s better if the chocolate is still warm (but definitely not burning hot!).

Leave it to rest for 15 to 20 minutes. In the meantime, I lie down and sometimes finish the chocolate bar or try to lick the extra chocolate around my mouth with my tongue. Yum! Breath in deeply, you feel like you’re visiting Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Incredible result, don’t you agree? Beyond my softer and more dazzling skin, I am in a happy hormones production phase. Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants, those small molecules, which fight the mean radicals that accelerate skin aging. It also has intensive hydrating properties; this means soft and nourished skin guaranteed (ideal at the moment).

For all the oily skins that have been thinking since the beginning “forget about this, it is not for me”, think again! Chocolate is full of magnesium and vitamins that act in the deep cell renewal of skin (I’m showing off I know, I used to work in cosmetics ;)). Anyway, it repairs your skin and makes it perfect, extremely clear. Ideal for all those who have scars from acne.

A blog reader, Constance, sent me her own recipe: 3 squares of dark chocolate to which she adds 1 teaspoon of milk and 1 of honey. No need to go through the benefits of honey again, you know how healthy it is for the skin (check out the mask tutorial lemon-honey-olive oil!) and the milk is to make the texture more pleasant and of course it hydrates. I look forward to getting your feedback!!!

Come on, you can go for it; for once you have permission to devour the chocolate bar without feeling guilty! Smear other parts of your body and if your boyfriend comes around at that moment, I guarantee it will be a anti-depression recipe for sure……

PS: in the stop-motion, I use a small mirror the size and shape of a credit card. It’s a Mon joli miroir, one, and Audrey, a friend of mine created them. The mirrors are made in France, and sold in a leather case made in a Etablissement et Service d’Aide par le Travail (ESAT) (institution that helps out workers in difficult situations). You can have a name or a message carved on them; it’s a great gift idea for a friend or even for yourself.
